The Town of Alice Springs is a local government area in the Northern Territory. On 1 July 1971, Alice Springs was gazetted as a Municipality with the town council elected on 25 July 1971. It is situated south of the Darwin. The council governs an area of 327.50 square kilometres (126.45 sq mi) and has a population of 23,893 as of the 2006 census.

History

The Town of Alice Springs is an established residential township with a commercial area and rural areas on the outskirts of the town. The original inhabitants of the town were the Arrernte Aboriginal people. European settlement of the area dates from 1862.

The current mayor of the Alice Springs Town Council Town Council is Damien Ryan. The council also contains seven aldermen.
